This brick was originally located at the earlier Grote Spui 23. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Between Grote Spui 23 and 27, there used to be a little lane with the name \u2018Bocht van Guinee\u2019 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is an act from 1753 which contains a reference to Grote Spui 23 as \u2018a house or dwelling, located on the Spoeije in the so-called Bogt van Guine\u2019 (old spelling).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The \u2018Bocht van Guinee\u2019, Gun\u00e9 or Guinea refers to the African strait along the route to the \u2018Gold Coast\u2019. In the Netherlands, this location was referred to as the Gold Coast (Goudkust) as huge fortunes were made in the trade of slaves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>(Text continues below the photo)<\/b><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"routepic\" src=\"https:\/\/routevanverzoening.nl\/amersfoort\/img\/routes\/ketikoti\/kk5.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amersfoort\u2019s \u2018Bocht van Guinee\u2019 used to be known as \u2018Dragerswelvaren\u2019 or \u2018Schipperswelvaren\u2019 and was a hostel and pub frequented by seamen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nowadays, the name \u2018Gold Coast\u2019 (Goudkust) triggers different associations than it used to. There are ongoing discussions about terms such as the \u2018Golden Era\u2019 (Gouden Eeuw) and \u2018Gold Coast\u2019 because these do not reflect the dark side of history.
