5. Eem Square
The Eemplein (Eem square) was constructed to create a second city centre in Amersfoort. From the end of the 19th century, the Eemplein became the heart of the industrial city. il mill ‘De Rijzende Zon’, which pressed oil from seeds, was used for a hundred years to supply the lanterns in the city with fuel. Later, the municipal gas factory was located here too. oday, the Eemplein is the cultural centre of Amersfoort whose beating heart is the Eemhuis, which is home to Archief Eemland, Bibliotheek Eemland, Kunsthal KAdE and art schoo Scholen in de Kunst
